There are several different types of pain but the one we will reference here is lower back pain related to musculoskeletal reasons–pain related to muscle, joint, tendon, or nerve.
Not all painful conditions warrant professional help. If you exercise and have sore muscles, that usually resolves within 3 days or so. If you are moving and lift heavy boxes all day, you will be sore. That’s normal.
But sometimes, you can damage your body to the point where the pain doesn’t go away–such as a fall, car-accident, or sport injury. And sometimes, the damage can occur from a seemingly harmless incident–something you wouldn’t think could cause damage.
Things like:
- Repetitive Stress
- A Mis-Step (off curb, etc.)
- Sex
- A weekend hike.
- Picking something up off the floor.
- Throwing your child up into the air.
- Sneezing repeatedly (from allergies or cold).
- Gardening
and more.
What most people do is reach for some Over-the-Counter meds.
Things like Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, or Aleve. And if the pain is really bad, you might take Ibuprofen or Naproxen thinking it’s okay because the doctor prescribed it.
This can actually make matters worse.
Why?
Because these drugs can “mask” the pain making you feel like everything is okay, when it’s not. The injured muscle, joint, or nerve is still injured and many end up causing more damage to their body while under the influence of these drugs.
Another reasons is because these drugs have HIGH RISK of dangerous side-effects.
The FDA increased the warnings on over-the-counter medications due to an increased number of people getting heart attacks and stroke. And it doesn’t matter your age or if you have heart disease or not. The dangers of these potentially lethal side effects can strike anyone at anytime.
The FDA said,…
“The risk of heart attack or stroke can occur as early as the first weeks of using an NSAID. The risk may increase with longer use of the NSAID.”
Lawsuits involving Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatories are on the rise.
Some of the most common NSAID’s taken for lower back pain are:
-
- Aspirin (brand names include Bayer, Bufferin, and Ecotrin, St. Joseph)
-
- Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
-
- Naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox DS, Naprosyn)
- Celecoxib (Celebrex)
Are the benefits worth the risks?
Is it worth having a heart attack or stroke, or even death, to get a few hours of relief? (These medications never fix the root cause).
Is there a better way?
Yes, there is…
Here are 10 ways to stop back pain quickly and all-naturally without relying on pills.
- Habits: Change your habits. Take frequent breaks from sitting. Don’t sit for more than 30-minutes straight through. If that’s not feasible because you have a long commute, use a small cushion towards the back of your car seat. This lifts up your tailbone and takes stress off the back. Limit time you spend on your couch. Couches are the worst for your back. They’re not designed to be ergonomic. Sit properly in your chair at work.
- Bed: Check your bed
- Feet: Wear shoes with good support
- Hips: Use your legs
- Food:
- Collagen:
- Flexibility: Increase flexibility. Gentle rotation exercises
- Muscles: Strengthen weak muscles
- Muscles: Stretch tight muscles
- Imbalances:
If your pain lingers and lasts more than 3 weeks, it’s a good idea to get some professional help to prevent it from becoming a chronic condition.
