Milly:

Hey guys, this is Milly and I am at the STINKYBODY lab in Lewisville and I’ve got Jimmy, the owner of STINKYBODY here with me today.

I have two important questions that I want to talk to Jimmy about.

Is eating breakfast important?

Jimmy:

This is kind of an age-old debate.

A lot of people don’t know what to do.

Should they eat breakfast?

Should they not eat breakfast?

Here’s the quick answer.

What does breakfast mean?

Breakfast means you’re breaking your fast.

When you eat dinner and then you go to bed that whole time until you wake up the next morning.

You’re fasting during that time,

there are so many benefits to fasting.

The problem isn’t what time you put something in your mouth is not as important as what you’re putting into your mouth.

What time you eat breakfast isn’t nearly as important as what you are eating for breakfast!

The typical American will eat:

  • eggs
  • bacon
  • toast with jam

or things like that for breakfast.

And all of those things that I just mentioned, they

Inflame the body

There are three things that cause inflammation as soon as you put into your body.

1) Animal Products

Animal products are on the list just because of triglycerides, cholesterol, and the fatty acids.

So those of you who have aches and pains, don’t eat animal products because it will a cause more inflammation.

2) Sugar

Things like jams and anything that has sugar.

Even if you do smoothies and you do like cereal or granola bars, anything with sugar

Unfortunately, even oats can be bad if they have sugar.

The sugar causes inflammation in the body.

3) Bread

Unfortunately a lot of the bread,

even the whole wheat, the Oroweat, the good bread with nine grains and all that stuff, also toast with butter on it.

I love it, but it just isn’t like 50 years ago,

most of the bread that you buy in the stores causes inflammation in the body.

So it’s just don’t do that.

The first thing in the day is what sets the stage for the entire day.

So what can you do if you are the type of person has to eat or drink something when they wake up.

Eat alkalizing things.

And because that lowers inflammation, it lowers the bad bacteria.

So you benefit from the fasting (going to sleep and not eating), and you also benefit from the alkalizing foods you will eat for breakfast.

What To Do When You Feel Hungry?

Milly:

Okay, interesting.

So tell me though, for me personally this morning,

I was ready to leave the house by eight o’clock and that’s when it hit me.

I am hungry.

My stomach said “feed me” and I felt hungry

So am I doing everything that I can to resist that urge?

Is it more a mental thing than a physical thing?

What advice do you have for me or anybody who’s on any fitness journey or any diet program or anything when they feel hungry?

What do they need to know?

How did they resist?

Jimmy:

I believe one of the first steps to getting healthy, not just physically, but also mentally,

is making a shift in this one thought that most Americans have.

And I’m American.

We live in the best country in the world.

However, we live in a country with capitalism,

where people are allowed to sell you stuff that harms you as long as it doesn’t kill you.

People are, allowed to sell things that harm people.

And unfortunately, the food industry is very good at marketing.

They have conditioned us to believe that hunger is a bad thing.

Why?

Because they want you to reach for their snacks,

their chips,

their pretzels,

and their fries.

I believe this is one of the greatest issues with America today because Americans are increasingly having diabetes,

heart disease,

obesity,

depression,

you know there’s just epidemic proportions.

Hunger is a good thing!

There are a few very important benefits that happen when you’re feeling the sensation of hunger.

One of the most important ones is the creation of a hunger hormone.

It’s called ghrelin.

That’s your hunger hormone.

But with ghrelin, another hormone is produced. A growth hormones.

What is growth hormone?

Growth hormone is what repairs the cartilage in your knees and other joints,

it also revitalizes your spine.

It makes the skin, which is the biggest organ in your body,  brighter and shinier.

The growth hormone is important to staying young.

HGH the growth hormone is only produced when your sleeping and when your hungry.

The three main times when your body will produce the growth hormone (HGH), the anti-aging hormone, the fountain of youth hormone,

is when you’re in deep REM sleep, which is rapid eye movement sleep,

also when you’re doing a certain type of exercise, we call it interval training (that’s the kind that we do here at STINKYBODY),

and when you’re feeling hungry for at least two hours.

So if you’re allowing yourself to feel hungry for at least two hours, growth hormone is going to be produced.

You’re going to stay younger, your cartilage, your connective tissue, your skin, and your organs will all be younger.

Me personally, I love the feeling of hunger because I know the benefits of it,

and I know that it’s helping me stay healthier and younger.

so I actually don’t eat anything until around noon.

Sometimes I don’t eat my first meal until 3:00 PM and I love that for me.

But this is one of the things that if you are really wanting to get healthy,

shift that thought and start enjoying the feeling of hunger.

Instead of thinking,

“Oh no, I have to eat for something. I have to reach for something.”

Think “I need to get my beauty sleep so that I can produce that HGH hormone.”

Being Hungry is Good?

I need to allow myself to be hungry so that I can produce more of the HGH.

And sometimes people start to feel lightheaded.

If they don’t eat for a duration of time,

they start to get a little shaky.

They might get a headache.

Now what I’m finding is that most people when they get those symptoms they think,

Oh, my blood sugar’s low.

That is simply not true, most of the time.

Most of the time it’s not because of their blood sugar.

I know a lot of people might reach for snacks or eat because they think they need to get their blood sugar levels higher.

But what I’m finding is that most of the time it’s because

you’re lacking three essential minerals that control things like your muscles, heart, and your mental clarity and things.

These are three minerals, but we call them electrolytes.

Milly:

Oh, so just drink Gatorade!

Jimmy:

No, no, no. That’s like the worst thing for you.

Anyways, the 3 electrolytes are potassium, magnesium, and calcium.

All the expert’s data shows that the typical American isn’t getting enough of these on a daily basis.

When you replenish those electrolytes, that jitteriness, the faint feeling, all of that goes away.

The best most beautiful part is that it makes you want to get up and move.

It makes you want to exercise.

So what I do is I will buy an electrolyte powder that has good ingredients in it.

So I put it into a cup with water and mix it up, and literally, in 60 seconds I have a dink with all the mineral I need.

Normally I’ll do that like around midday.

And then I’m back to clear thoughts and everything is good.

Milly:

So I think I’m feeling hungry, I should have a few electrolytes to kind of make that next two hours feel less hard?

Jimmy:

Well, yeah, in the end, it doesn’t even matter.

Like it’s not just about fulfilling that hunger.

It’s so much more than that cause your electrolytes are not just for energy.

It’s also for heart health.

Because your heart is a muscle and these minerals are really important to keep your blood flowing good,

that makes sure your muscles and your heart keep working properly.

Milly:

Okay, so that leads me to my next question.

Is snacking good or bad for me?

I know everybody snacks from time to time.

So is there a snack that is better than a different one or

what do you?

What do you have to say about snacking in general?

Jimmy:

There’s good and Bad News. So I will start off with the bad and we can end on the good.

Anytime you put anything in your mouth,

it doesn’t matter what it is,

it spikes your insulin.

And right now, over 77% of Americans have insulin resistance(pre-diabetes) or diabetes.

Their bodies aren’t processing sugar properly.

Why? Because we’re putting things into our mouth too often,

every time you put something in your mouth insulin spikes.

And the more you do that, the lower your sensitivity of insulin gets, meaning you need more and more insulin.

So snacking across the board is something you should minimize or not do.

Most people snack because they’re bored or they just have this habit.

Sometimes people are feeling down or they’re feeling sad.

So they put something in their mouth and it kind of helps them emotionally.

But also, a lot of people snack because they’re addicted to the compounds that are in those French fries, chips, cookies.

Snacking causes un-health

Snacking is one of the reasons why this country is so unhealthy. People are always reaching and eating something.

But like I said answering the first question,

if you shift your thinking and allow yourself to feel hunger,

you will get the anti-aging benefits and you will know that it is really good for you.

What happens if you stop snaking?

If you stop snacking,

you’ll make your insulin really powerful again!

That way you won’t have the likelihood of diabetes and other problems that come with that.

If you feel like you absolutely need to put something in your mouth,

then look for non-inflammatory things.

Sugar and animal product are some of the most inflammatory,

so don’t eat those kinds of things.

Don’t eat anything processed like pretzels and potato chips.

You know, eat some celery with peanut butter,

Is Breakfast Important? Maybe Some Celery With Peanut Butter?

you know, those sorts of things.

Things like carrots,

these whole foods that are alkalizing to the body that really keep you healthy.

The one thing I want everyone to know

There’s so much but here’s what I’m going to say.

About the Author James Ko

It wasn't long ago I felt over stressed, out of shape, and overfat.

I was overloaded with work, bills, kids, To-Do Lists, and projects, I neglected my own needs (my sanity) and became deeply concerned about my health. All while working as a Sports Medicine Physical Therapist helping others reach the pinnacle of their own health and athletic performance.

Feeling like a fake, a hypocrite, I decided to make a change.

It was easy for me to help others improve their health and bodies but very difficult to do for myself. With a busy schedule, constant travel, and high stress, it was impossible to eat healthy and exercise regularly.

This left me feeling even more defeated; and my health declined even further. Things spiraled out of control until one day I thought I was having a heart attack. It scared me. I took it as a red flag warning to make a commitment toward change.

I made it my mission to find a way to make it work. To achieve better health despite stress, bills, work, kids and travel.

One day I stumbled upon a life-altering method. Everything began to change. And now my health and body is better than ever (in many ways even better than in my 20's). I feel incredible. I don't get sick like I used to, and I have high energy to attack the day.

I now have a mission to share it with others. I believe everyone should have access to this groundbreaking information regardless of socioeconomic or educational status. It should not be only privy to the elite and wealthy. So join me. Let me guide you to discovering your inner power and make health, fitness and wellness a reality and lifestyle.
